Microzone Heat Mat Controller System

Tag: Category: SKU: FE-HPC001-MISC

Description

The Microzone Heat Pad Controller System from Herdstar® automatically adjusts heat output on large systems of heat mats based on room temperature changes and a growing animal’s needs. This energy-saving system allows for 0-100% variable power output, features expandable capacity, automatic temperature ramping, and more. CSA/UL certified.

System components include:

  • Heat Pad Controller
This is the main control unit of the MicroZone system. The Controller monitors room temperature and varies the power to the heat lamps or mats from 0 to 100%. It also provides the programmable temperature ramp to adjust your power settings based on animal age. One Controller can manage up to twelve power modulators.
  • Power Supply
The Power Supply provides the operating low voltage for the MicroZone Controller. Available in 110-120V and 220-240V.
  • Power Modulator
The Power Modulator regulates the power going to the heating mats in response to commands from the MicroZone Controller.
  • Temperature Sensor
A temperature sensor allows the MicroZone Controller to accurately measure the room temperature, resulting in optimized power settings for the mats. One or two temperature sensors can be used to monitor the room or mat temperature. When two sensors are used, the MicroZone Controller will use the average temperature of the two sensors to adjust the power to the heat mats.

Features & Benefits

  • Set and maintain the optimal temperature for animal development and comfort
  • Save electricity by using only the exact amount of power needed
  • Automatically compensate for changes in room temperature
  • Automatically reduce power to heat mats over time to match animals’ stage in production

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How does the Microzone Automatic Heat Mat Control System actually control the temperature of connected heat mats?
The main control unit of Herdstar’s Microzone Automatic Heat Mat Control System is the Controller unit. This Controller monitors room temperature (or mat temperature) and varies the power to the connected mats from 0 to 100 percent. The Power Modulator regulates the power going to the connected heat mats in response to commands from the main Controller unit. These commands include the relationship between the measured temperature and the user-programmed temperature control band and temperature ramp information to adjust power settings based on animal age. The Power Supply unit supplies the operating power to the Controller. The temperature sensing probe allows the Controller to accurately measure the temperature of the animal environment (or “piglet zone”) in the creep area.
  2. How do I know if my control setting is correct?
Animal behavior is often the best indicator for proper floor-level supplemental heating in the barn or animal facility. The control settings are correct and the connected heat mat(s) temperature is just right when animals spread out over the heat mat with a minimum of restlessness or piling. The heat mat should never be too hot to the touch. If it is too hot for your bare hand, it’s likely too hot for the animals and the control band settings should be adjusted.
  3. How many heat mats can the Microzone Automatic Heat Mat Control System regulate?
Very large systems of heat mats may be controlled with the Microzone system by adding additional power modulators. One Controller unit can accept up to twelve (12) Power Modulators. Each Power Modulator can operate one 16-amp circuit at 1920W (at 120V) or 3840W (at 240V). Contact Osborne for additional information and assistance in designing a heat mat system with the Microzone control system.
  4. Can the Microzone Automatic Heat Mat Control System work with complete barn controls?
Yes. The Microzone system is well suited for use with complete barn controls with a special controller unit that operates at 0-10VDC.
