Frequently Asked Questions
- How does the Model F920A Automatic Heat Mat Control actually control the temperature of connected heat mats?
The F920-Series Automatic Heat Mat Controls utilizes a proportional time on/time off operation to automatically control the temperature of connected heat mats. An adjustable control knob is used to set the desired operating temperature which is read by the included temperature sensor. Once set, the control automatically changes the proportion of time on and time off to keep the temperature of the connected heat mats constant even with fluctuations in floor level temperatures. The control is operating normally if the time on and time off time cycles about once every 30 seconds. - How do I know if my control setting is correct?
Animal behavior is often the best indicator for proper floor-level supplemental heating in the barn or animal facility. The control is set correctly and the connected heat mat(s) temperature is just right when animals spread out over the heat mat with a minimum of restlessness or piling. The heat mat should never be too hot to the touch. If it is too hot for your bare hand, it’s likely too hot for the animals and the control setting should be reduced. - How many heat mats can the Model F920A Automatic Heat Mat Control regulate?
The Model F920A control can handle a system of heat mats up to 2,400W. For example, up to twelve (12) 2 x 4′ double farrowing heat mats can be used with one Model F920A control. For larger systems, Osborne offers automatic controls with higher capacities (see Model F920D). The F920-Series controls are also available in 240V. Contact Osborne for ordering information.
