Performance Testing

Manual methods of tracking individual feed intake and daily growth of small livestock animals often results in skewed data and wasted labor. Automatically collect real-world, commercially-realistic data with the original performance testing system available only from Osborne. FIRE fully automates the measurement of individual daily feed consumption and other performance characteristics in groups of pigs, sheep, and goats.

About

For more than three decades, FIRE (Feed Intake Recording Equipment) has remained the acknowledged standard in performance testing by leading genetics companies and universities all around the world. The system reliably automates the measurement of individual daily feed intake and other performance metrics of growing animals housed in commercially-realistic groups. Testing the effects of genetic, feed, pharmaceutical or environmental changes is done automatically with real-time data collection, providing the maximum amount of data for educated genetic and management decision making.

With thousands of units in use all over the world, Osborne’s expertise in performance testing with the proven FIRE system is unsurpassed. And now, for the first time ever, the FIRE technology is available for nursery-sized animals in Osborne’s new SaFIRE (Small Animal Feed Intake Recording Equipment) system.

Performance Testing

IDENTIFY SUPERIOR ANIMALS

Automatically identify superior performing animals for improved genetic selection.
Performance Testing

TEST FEED & FEED ADDITIVES

Test the effects of non-traditional feedstuffs and their effects on animal performance.
Performance Testing

ELIMINATE BIAS & ERRORS

Automated data collection in commercially-realistic groups eliminates testing bias and operator error.
Performance Testing

REDUCE TESTING LABOR

Collect data automatically and significantly reduce the labor associated with manual testing.

FIRE

Each FIRE (Feed Intake Recording Equipment) single-space feeder serves about 12 to 15 finishing animals without measurable feed restriction. Special algorithms and an automatic calibration method allows the trough to remain accessible at all times to accurately simulate commercial production.

SaFIRE

Like FIRE, the SaFIRE (Small Animal Feed Intake Recording Equipment) system serves 12 to 15 pigs, but is specifically designed for nursery-sized animals up to about 23 kg (50 lbs.). SaFIRE’s new technology leverages the proven accuracy of FIRE, allowing critical data collection for small animals for the first time ever.
